What to Look for in a Personal Trainer

WHY HAVE A TRAINER?

Once reserved only for the rich and famous, personal training has reached the mainstream. Having the expertise of a personal trainer can accelerate your results in the gym and expand your knowledge of a healthy lifestyle. Having a personal trainer helps you to manage the most  precious asset that we all possess and that is our health. Investing in a trainer is investing in yourself!

A GOOD PERSONAL TRAINER CAN...

  • Assess your health and fitness status
  • Design a safe and appropriate exercise routine
  • Teach you the best way to exercise
  • Get MAXIMUM benefit from your gym time
  • Speed up your learning curve
  • Track your progress and tackle plateaus
  • Push you past your comfort level which is difficult to do on your own
  • Provide accountability, the hardest part of sticking with your nutrition and exercise plan
  • Keep you motivated

Your Angie's World trainer will be your partner throughout your transformation!

WHAT MAKES A GOOD PERSONAL TRAINER...

  • Your best bet is to find a personal trainer that has been accredited by a third party agency. This keeps the accreditation objective and well rounded on subject matter. Some of the most respected in the industry are American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NCSA), The American Council on Exercise (ACE) and International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA). • Trainer needs to be certified in CPR/First Aid
  • Be sure to ask about experience with people like you. So if you are hoping to improve your golf game, for instance, or if you are someone with a heart condition or arthritis, seek a trainer and organization with expertise and experience in those areas.

WHAT IS A SESSION LIKE?

  • Each weight training session is a half hour long. Depending on your fitness level and the amount of days you are available to train you may work total body routines, upper or lower routines or ideally a 3-part body split. For example, a chest/biceps/triceps day, a leg day, and a shoulder/back day.
  • The first meeting is devoted to assessing fitness level, body measurements, exercise and health history and establishing goals. Be prepared to answer specific questions about your goals and history. Once you have picked your trainer and you are comfortable, listen to them and communicate. Your results will be directly related to a positive relationship with your trainer and nutritionist! Make sure to take advantage of the precious time you have with these professionals especially in regards to their wealth of knowledge. You can learn and apply this knowledge not only at the gym but to your lifestyle outside of the gym. Much of the information you obtain from a GREAT trainer can serve you well for much of your life as you constantly improve your overall health and well being.

HOW OFTEN DO I SEE A TRAINER & EXERCISE PER WEEK?

  • 2 times per week minimum to maintain your current body composition
  • 3 times per week to change your body composition
  • Cardio should be 30 minutes, 5 times per week, ideally 6 times per week.
  • Abs can be trained everyday but if you are sore, give them 24 hours to rest.
  • Please note that it may not be possible to train ALL the time with your trainer due to time or monetary concerns. Some clients work with their trainer once a week and are self motivated enough to weight train themselves the other days. Others may check in with their trainer a couple of times per month and go it alone the other days. Many, however, like the dedicated appointment 3 times per week and find that it keeps them accountable and consistent. Pick what works best for you!
  • One of the unique benefits of Angie's World is that all of our clients will get their workouts designed, detailed and emailed to them. The workouts are sent directly to you so you can view the videos and print the workouts from your own computer. This way you will have your workouts with you when you do need to get to the gym on your own.

CAN I TRAIN WITH A FRIEND OR SIGNIFICANT OTHER?

  • Yes! We provide two options, you can each train individually with a personal trainer at the same time OR you can both train together with the same trainer (Please see rate sheet)
  • Pairing up with a buddy can save costs but more importantly it can help keep you on track. You will both work to motivate each other, keep each other company, excel together and push each other to new levels!!
