Who Needs a Detoxification Program

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

by Dr. Adria Rothfeld (Nutritional Wellness Center)

Who needs a Detoxification Program?
Let’s first define what a healthy detoxification program is not:
• A starvation diet where you walk around like a zombie for 10 days.
• An abundance of diarrhea…

What is a Healthy Detoxification Protocol?
• It does not involve fasting, purging, etc., but instead supports the pathways in the body that help to reduce the toxic burden.
• It involves recommended foods and beverages that contain the nutrients needed to help the body eliminate unwanted chemicals. Detailed meal plans and recipes will be provided to help make this very user-friendly.
• We will also use a medical food, mixed as a shake with fruit, which has been proven to assist the body with detoxification. It does this by providing the nutrients that the liver uses to help remove toxins as well as by revving up the body’s natural chelating agent that binds to toxins and allows for their elimination. These ingredients have demonstrated safety even for long-term use.
• A recent pilot study using this medical food found that after just a few weeks, even individuals with severe fibromyalgia showed significant improvement in pain, stiffness, quality of life, and a 74% reduction in mercury levels in the body.
Who would benefit and why?
Traditional medicine focuses on treating symptoms. If you have headaches or arthritis, you get pills to ease your pain, but what’s causing the symptoms is rarely considered.
If we can identify the cause(s), and use natural means to deal with them, we can find a real cure, not only for the current symptoms, but also for future ones.

Can toxins be related to your symptoms?
Our toxic burden is higher than it’s ever been.
• The sick body cannot rally itself if it is busy detoxifying pesticides and other chemicals.
• There are 85,000 synthetic chemicals registered in the US, yet toxicological screening data is available for only 7% of these chemicals.
• In a study released by the environmental working group, 200 industrial chemicals were found in umbilical blood of the babies tested.
• Over 1 billion pounds of pesticides are used annually in the US.
• According to Dr. Sherry Rogers, MD, US EPA studies of chemicals stored in the fat of humans show that 100% of people had dioxins, PCB’s and dichlorobenzene.
• Usage of pesticides had doubled every 10 years, but interestingly, pest damage to crops is more prevalent now. On average, less than .1% of pesticides reach their target, the remaining 99.9% contaminates the environment.
Since the 1970’s when toxins started flooding our world:
• Autism increased 10 fold f
• Male birth defects doubled
• Childhood brain cancer was up 40%
• One type of leukemia was up 62%
But, I just want to lose some weight and work off the holiday bulge….how is this all related:
• Pesticides and other toxins are OBESOGENIC, meaning that they spur both the formation and growth of fat cells.
• Do you have trouble losing weight even when you diet? The more toxins you have storing in your fat, the more your body holds onto that fat until you have strengthened the detoxification pathways so that these toxins can be readily disposed of-that’s what a proper detox protocol will encourage.

Mastering The Fine Art Of Lying To Yourself

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Is it inevitable that we start to believe our own lies?
I was recently speaking to a client. We have been having great success with her workouts and became fast friends. We were at a recent workshop with the intuitive life coach Tony Rowe (www.anthonyrowe,com). I have been fortunate to have received great benefit in my life due to my relationship with Tony. So we’re on a break and chatting by the water cooler and my friend starts to tell me about the first time she saw me. It was five years ago and at another gym. She proceeded to tell me how focused and intense I was during my 5am workouts and that she sort of avoided me. Well, I laughed it off and we both agreed that the Wilma standing here today was in a much better place and a happier person to be around. After the evening wound up and I was contemplating the events of the day I really had to check myself. I had written the title to this blog a week ago but didn’t know how it would manifest. Then in a blink of an eye, the words come to me. See, five years ago I was dealing with some life altering events, had starved myself skinny and was thinking to myself how great I was handling everything.
In a a split second, there was the mirror of my self deception staring me down like the queen in Sleeping Beauty… “I am the fairest in the land”…and other assorted crap that we start to believe after awhile. In that moment, I realized how good I had gotten at lying to myself. I realized how my energetic temperature is evident in it’s truest sense no matter how much make up I wear or what size my pants are. I may have been skinnier but healthy I was not! I sent off an intense, chaotic vibe and in turn got that kind of energy back. Again, the mirror of life reflecting back at me. Fast forward five years and my life has a view that has blossomed to a warm and inviting glow with a little tarnish still around my halo. Those of you that know me personally can attest to that fact. But I am in a place where I can give to others and accept myself as I am, “A Work In Progress”. If you are lucky, you too have people in your life that reflect back to you what you are projecting and that accept the fact that you and the rest of the population are ALL a work in progress. However, even with this new shift in my self awareness I am sure that I can still find ways to lie to myself but hopefully on a smaller scale like…:”I really AM funny, even if the grocery clerk didn’t think so”, or “I AM a good driver even with the radio blasting at level 10″, or “I AM 6 feet tall with long, slender legs” (that’s the funniest one). But if I start to slip back into what one of my very best life-long friends calls “My Phase” I am sure there are plenty of you out there to hold the mirror up to my face and say ” Really, the fairest in the land? Think again!”

How Will You Celebrate Valentines Day?

Saturday, February 5th, 2011

We’re barely through the New Year’s resolution season and our convictions are
already being tested. The displays of chocolate with the “I Love You” ribbons
are everywhere and cupid is lurking around the corner with an innocent smile but
a devious plan. The message we get is that if you truly love someone you will
shower them with candy treats. Now we all know that dark chocolate (70% or
higher) has positive health benefits in small doses but that is not what is
being pushed. The amount of REAL chocolate in our current marketplace is
deceptively small and in some instances completely non existent. I am hoping
that if we really want to show our loved ones how much we care about them we
will consider different avenues for showing our affection. How about a
subscription to a favorite magazine. (Oxygen magazine is a great choice for you
fitness fans, www.oxygenmag.com)or maybe a massage or pedicure. Mom may
appreciate a day off with her girlfriends to go to lunch while Dad takes care of
the kids. Maybe a movie date or a hike together might do the trick. When you
think of how to show someone how much they mean to you give them something that
will add to their life not take away from it. This year when cupids pulls back
his arrow remember to target your loved one’s health either physically or
emotionally when choosing a gift. Because the best gift of all is a long,
healthy and happy life together!!

Body By Angie: Is Your Body Bankrupt? Learn to Invest in Yourself

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Well, my first book has finally been published and is available on amazon.com and in bookstores everywhere! Wow! What a long process – I had no idea how long it would take to write a book and how much longer it takes to publish a book! If you have ever thought of writing a book, feel free to ask me questions on this blog. I would be happy to assist you and perhaps save you some heartache and excess footsteps on the journey of becoming an author.
I am very proud of this accomplishment and I am more proud of the reviews I have been receiving, especially the ones on amazon.com from people I don’t know.
If my book changes one person’s life, the many weekends I spent writing instead of “just chilling”, the hours spent emailing my editor and reviewing the book, and the headaches I had over the publishing companies rules and regulations will be all worth it. If that one person realizes the importance of exercise and/or the benefits of healthy eating, my book will be a success in my eyes.
I invite all of you that have read my book to post a personal story, an “a-ha” moment, or an “oh, wow” comment to this blog. I would love to dive deeper into some of the topics I wrote about as well as answer any questions that you may have after reading my book.
Here’s to your health!

Even With Insurance I Can’t Afford To Get Sick!

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

By Wilma Young

Recently I was shopping for personal health insurance. Many of you have experienced this unpleasant activity. The first offense I experienced were the dreaded pre-existing condition questions…”Are you currently taking any prescription medications? Are you diabetic? Being treated for cancer?” And the list goes on and on. I am fortunate to be able to answer NO to these questions so I assumed my pricing would be a manageable monthly expense and similar to the HMO plan I currently have. To my economic horror I had the sticker shock of walking into a Mercedes Benz dealership with a Honda checkbook. Thinking that pricing the HMO plans would be the smartest direction turned out to be wrong. Getting a PPO with a HUGE deductible was the best choice as I rarely go to the doctor except for my annual exam and of course in case of an emergency. How lucky I am to be confident in my health. To work out, and create wellness in my life not only adds to the quality I value but also puts me in control of my healthcare. Being at the mercy of an insurance company who sadly only gives a doctor approximately 7 minutes with you in an exam room to evaluate and uncover your obstacles is absurd for both you and the doctor. Both of your hands are tied. In this economic time of upheaval and uncertainty your health is more valuable than most everything in your life. You can’t afford to get sick, so spend your time making yourself WELL!!

It’s That Time of Year Again!

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

By Wilma Young, CPT

You know the drill. It’s Thanksgiving, then Christmas and then of course a Happy New Year, right? But when we let ourselves have a little too much “celebration” and too little activity we feel a bit sluggish and in some need of a fast fix. My advice to you is RESIST!!! Resist the urge to go the “quick fix” route. The only way you can lose weight quickly is in an unhealthy way…starvation, too little protein, and skipping breakfast. Doing these things leads to unhealthful weight loss and irritability and then our family and friends pay the price of a grumpier “you”! This route will not bring you to a healthy body weight that can be sustained for a long period and then next year you could be right back in the same boat with even more to lose. Let’s get off this roller coaster once and for all. I am going to suggest that THIS year you do it differently, that THIS year you will make the consistent healthy choices that will prolong your life, that THIS year you will give yourself more energy and a stronger body and set yourself up for a happier you all year long. If you just commit to one change per week and stick with it you will impact your life not only physically but you will empower yourself spiritually. This year will be the year that you invest in yourself! Besides, aren’t you worth it?

Can’t figure out what’s ailing you

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

By Tammy Fish, HN

I have to tell you about some incredible things I have been finding by using the BioMeridian equipment. I had a patient that I was working with recently who was in her late 70’s. She had been dealing with many health issues and couldn’t quite figure out what all was ailing her. It seemed that no matter what she would do, nothing could help her feel better. So after taking her health history, etc., one of the questions I ask her was if she had ever been out of the country. Well her answer was a simple “No,” I haven’t been anywhere in quite some time.” Well, I had a sneaking suspicion that something might turn up anyhow so I went ahead and tested her with her permission. Well low and behold, just as we had suspected “we found parasites!” Well when I told her what I had found and read where they possibly had originated from which was “the middle east”, her reply was “Oh yell, I was in the middle east last year for an entire month and the first week I was so sick I thought I was going to die! No one could tell me what was wrong, so I had to stay in bed and wait until it ran its course. I just figured it was a really bad flu bug or food poisoning!” My reply was “Silvia, how could you forget that?” With that she replied “well Tammy, it wasn’t something I wanted to remember!” J Needless to say, we put her on the proper protocol for what she had and miraculously a great deal of her health issues have already begun to dissipate! We will periodically retest her to make sure they are gone, but in the meantime she’s gotten long overdue answers to those health issues she couldn’t quite put her finger on! This state of the art alternative medical equipment from Europe is an incredible tool and one that everyone can and should be tested on.
