Yesterday we had a wonderful group come to the Riverside Barnes and Noble for Angie and her book, “BODY BY ANGIE, Is Your Body Bankrupt, Learn to Invest in Yourself”! The day included an author discussion as well as a FREE body composition test for anyone who attended. What a delightful group we had and their questions were exceptional. Many had already read the book and Angie was able to interact with individuals to answer their specific questions. What an inspiring day to see others make the connection with nutrition, energy and health that myself and those in my profession can often take for common knowledge in our everyday lives. I KNOW that there were many recommendations given out yesterday that were minor changes in the events of that person’s daily activities but actions that are going to pay off BIG TIME for them in the future. I am happy to know that there are people being affected in such a positive way by Angie’s knowledge and presence in our community. I consider myself very lucky to witness her engage her passion with the intention of making this place we call our body a healthier and happier one. I also know that what she is doing will help to reduce the effects of chronic disease, mobilize people into physical activity and ultimately make this world a better place for each and every on of us!

Barnes and Noble Was A Great Success!
Sunday, July 25th, 2010So What Are YOU going to do on your 65th Birthday?
Thursday, July 22nd, 2010It’s 10:15 pm on a week night. For those of you that know me, this is WAY past my bedtime. I get up at 4:15 am every morning so I am always in bed at 8 pm.
Tonight is different. Tonight I am watching a GPS tracking device online. Why? John Adair is finishing a 22+ mile hike on Mt. Whitney. John is a client of mine who has struggled with a weight problem for many years. He appeared to not be motivated or inspired to sticking to a exercise/eating plan… until this year. John turned 65 this year. In fact, today.
In his own words: “Tomorrow is my Sixty-Fifth birthday (7/22). Friends have suggested that I am now “OVER THE HILL” I have given this a little bit of thought and I have to ask myself, what is on the other side? After a short amount of time I decided I would take a look before I found myself some place I may not want to be.So to mark this point in life’s progression I have decided to climb Mt Whitney and see for myself what is on the other side? Mt Whitney (14,505 ft) the highest point in the continental US. I will camp (7/21) at the trail head and plan to depart sometime between 1am and 4am (7/22). I would like to reach the summit between noon and 3pm, take a short rest and start my decent. I hope to return by 11pm. The trail is about 22 plus miles round trip, with an altitude gain of about 6,700 ft. It will be a long day. This will be a life time first; I have never climbed any mountain before. I have not asked anyone to join me, this is a solo effort. I invite you to follow my efforts by clicking on the link below (It will show a Google Map with my tracking points). I will be carrying a GPS tracking device with me. It should report every 10 min for 24 hrs. Here is the link to follow my progress on climb to the summit of Mt Whitney
http://share.findmespot.com/shared/gogl.jsp?glId=0NlZc9AXSOLso2TuHCJ4f3flooSU9v11u”
(Please check out his voyage. You can change the view to satellite to see the trees and the snow.)
How inspiring is that? This year, when John decided on this goal, it was like a spark lit up inside of him. He was no longer trying to lose 40 lbs, he was on a mission. When his mind set changed from a number on a scale to a reason to be leaner, John’s life transformed. John wanted to eat better so that he could hike longer. He wanted to walk everyday because he had a goal – an exact date – to hike the tallest mountain he could find. This transformation is the key to releasing weight for good. If you are still trying to lose a few pounds, I invite you to think outside of the box and do a bit of soul searching. Find out what you really want to do with a leaner body. Dance? Ski dive? Rock climb? Climb a mountain? When you follow your dreams and listen to your inner voice, you will have the motivation you are looking for to achieve your goals.
I have been tracking him all day. I sent him energetic vibes to keep him strong as he switch backed up the mountain. I cheered for him from my computer as he reached the summit. I watched as he descended the mountain after being up for over 12 hours. I remembered our conversations about what he should be eating on his hike and hoped that he wasn’t feeling hungry or overly fatigued. I wondered if I gave him all the advise he needed to make his goal. And now I wait in anticipation for John to arrive safely back.
Tonight I am congratulating John for doing something many fit 65 year olds wouldn’t consider doing. He is moments away from arriving back at the Whitney Portals. His family is there to surprise him. I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate life, doing something you physically didn’t think was possible.

The Latest Press Release
Wednesday, July 21st, 2010Riverside Trainer’s New Book Shares “Secrets” of Health and Fitness
Hard work and long-term commitment trump trendy diets and surgeries, says president of Angie’s World and author of the new book, “Body by Angie.”
RIVERSIDE, CA—If you’re overweight and unhealthy and want to do something about it, Angie Lustrick has some advice for you.
Ignore the ever-present ads for weight-loss surgery (it’s a lot riskier—and costlier—than they let on). Forget the quick-fix diet fads—the only weight you’ll lose will be from your wallet.
Instead, take a page—literally—out of Lustrick’s new book, “Body by Angie: Is Your Body Bankrupt? Learn to Invest in Your Health.”
In her book, Lustrick, president of Riverside-based personal training and nutrition center Angie’s World, explains why starvation diets, risky surgeries and unrealistic exercise regimens simply don’t work.
The truth is, getting and staying in shape isn’t easy.
It takes hard work, dedication and the right mindset. And support from expert trainers such as the staff at Angie’s World doesn’t hurt, either.
What’s really needed is a life-changing commitment to getting and staying healthy, says Lustrick, who understands firsthand the challenges of being overweight.
A decade ago, she was overweight, hypoglycemic and unhappy with the way she looked and felt. Like increasing numbers of Americans, her lack of fitness was affecting her overall health, and she had to do something about it.
Ten years later, Lustrick is a certified nutritionist and personal trainer. She has competed in marathons, triathlons, bodybuilding events and other sporting competitions. At 34, she’s in the best shape of her life—physically, mentally and emotionally. And she’s inspiring others to embark on the same life-changing journey she undertook.
Her message couldn’t come at a more appropriate time. A 2010 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that 32.2 percent of adult men and 35.5 percent of adult women were obese. According to medical experts, obesity can lead to chronic conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, certain cancers and arthritis.
No miracle diet or dangerously invasive surgery will help you lose the weight and keep it off, says Lustrick, who appeared at book signings in the Inland Empire in July— including an event scheduled at Barnes & Noble booksellers on July 24— where she dispensed advice and inspired people to set and pursue their own weight-loss goals.
As Lustrick says, eating sensibly and committing to long-term exercise goals will allow you to lose body fat and add muscle, increase your metabolism and stamina and improve your overall health.
A sensible—and increasingly affordable—approach to getting in shape is by working with a personal trainer. And “Body by Angie” tells you how to choose a trainer who will help design a safe and appropriate exercise routine, get maximum benefit from your workouts and keep you motivated to do even better.
Lustrick received her certified nutritionist degree from American Health Science University and earned a degree in Biology from the University of California, Riverside. She was diagnosed as pre-diabetic in her early college years, and knew she had to make a major lifestyle change. She entered a nationally sponsored transformation contest in 2000 and won first place out of 30,000 participants. She has since started Angie’s World, a Center of Excellence for the First Line Therapy® Program, a medically proven nutrition program.
So I’m At The Grocery Store…
Wednesday, May 26th, 2010I am at the check out line noticing the woman in front of me. She has the classic American apparel of grey, baggy sweats and an oversized shirt. Her energy seems to be negative and I feel sad for her because it looks like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders. As she approaches the conveyer she proceeds to give the checker and bagger the specifics on how she would like her transaction to be handled. I was enthralled at this woman’s demeanor and wondered how she got to this place in her life. Then as she started to remove her groceries from her cart she literally threw them on the check out stand. One time after another with no consideration as to how they were landing or what they hit. When the yogurt containers hit the cellophane chicken bending it out of it’s original shape I was awstruck by how callously she was handling her food. That the respect, or lack there of, she was showing to the food was representative of how she felt about life was obvious to me. I wondered how she got to a point in her life that she no longer cared about the quality of her food or maybe when she stopped valuing herself enough to think that she was unworthy of consideration and kindness. I thought that if she treated her food this way, she would also prepare the food with negative energy and she would then ingest this negative energy and the cycle would continue. My wish for all of you out there would be to realize that the respect we show our food, our environment and each other is important for our individual well being. That the collective is only as strong as the individuals. When you are kind to a stranger you are being kind to yourself. When you consider the positive nature of how your food is processed and the humanity in which it is provided is representative of your humanity to yourself. That if you manage your family and friends with love, that you deserve the same love back! Start to see the connection between our attitudes and our bodies and you will finally realize there is a mind-body connection. Start to apply this everyday to your life and you have health beyond your wildest dreams!!
What Are You Doing To Lose Weight That Is Actually Working Against You?
Tuesday, May 25th, 2010By Wilma Young
Do you find yourself saying, “It’s a new beginning. I will conquer IT this time. I will eat only minuscule
amounts, deprive myself of the things I love and drink diet soda until the cows
come home to quench my hunger. I will be a diet martyr even if my family hates me in the meantime.
Besides, they will LOVE me more when I am thinner. I will MAKE this weight get
off of me even if it kills me”!!!…Well believe me honey, it will!!
How many times have you decided that, by brute force, you will make your body acquiesce to
your ideals and finally have the body you have always wanted? Then you end up not
only NOT thinner but grumpier and unhappier?
First, you must eat to release weight. If you starve the muscle you will reduce your metabolism and your body will hold onto the fat because it goes into starvation mode. It doesn’t know
when it will get it’s next meal and especially in the case of women, the body will hold onto the
fat for survival. Then when you sacrifice to the point that you feel totally
deprived, your body feels annoyed and you hold onto resentment. This negative energy
stays stored in your cells. It will have a major impact on how your
body holds onto toxins and that inevitably will hinder your progress.
Then, the dreaded diet soda. You think that having zero calories and plenty of chemicals
floating in your system will trick your body into weight loss but think again. The
chemicals are sending out signals that tell your body it is getting sugar, but
it really ISN’T getting sugar. Now your body is releasing insulin to manage the
sugar that can’t be found and then you will store all of this in your tummy area. You feel
bloated and you start holding onto to water weight. This is NOT the formula for a happy, healthy
life.
May I suggest that the slow steady pace, the one that allows for meals
every 2-3 hours, a little variance when it comes to your favorite item (in
moderation of course) and a ZERO TOLERANCE for diet soda is the key to long term
health and weightloss success! I prefer you do not consume any soda at all in your diet but
if you absolutely must, make it a regular. Granted, it is 10+ teaspoons of sugar -
but at least your body recognizes it as sugar and not the chemical composition
that even a chemistry student would have a hard time deciphering. Remember, your
body is a miracle. It can take a lot and keep on going but let’s get serious. Do
you want to live on this rollercoaster? Do you want to hate not being able to
indulge every once in a while? Do you want to send the signals to your body that
you will force it into submission? Anyone who has dealt with small children and tried to force them into submission can tell you this is a short term solution that will make the next blow-out bigger. Be kind to
yourself. Give your body the foods it really wants so it can perform at optimal
levels. And PLEASE let the soda go. Your body will react by achieving an ideal weight and your cells and your soul will thank you!

How to Show Appreciation
Wednesday, May 5th, 2010By Wilma Young
We recently had a client who has the admirable job of being a teacher. She is also a wife and a Mom with the responsibility of taking care of a family including a special needs daughter. She is a terrific person and with all that she has to do she is also trying to manage her own health with good nutrition and exercise. She came in this week feeling a bit down because it had been “Teacher Appreciation Week” and with very good intentions the gifts of treats and sweets added up. Not just in her classroom but in the break room and with all her fellow teachers. She tried hard to resist most of the time but caved on a few occasions and was beating herself up. Come to find out one of the administrators, with perfectly good intentions, sent out a note to parents about showing “appreciation”. Unfortunately, in our current state, we think of appreciation as a sweet food or sugaring coffee drink which only brings on the high of a quick boost and the sudden drop of blood sugar. Add to that grumpiness and tiredness and we don’t feel like being appreciated, we just feel like being left alone. I would like to suggest something better. How about if we show our appreciation with flowers, or how about some paper, sticky notes or pencils that are needed in the classroom but yet so many teachers , with our failing budgets, tend to buy out of their own pocket. Maybe a gift card to Michaels or Target where that can load up on supplies or maybe a well thought out note of thanks. Just putting into words that you acknowledge a teacher’s hard work and sacrifice will go a very long way with someone who normally only hears a parent’s complaints and not their praises. Teachers mold all of our futures when they mold young minds. Can we recognize that just like kids, too much of a good things leaves them burned out and unable to perform at their best. PLEASE, we want our teachers to feel appreciated but let’s change our mindset on how to do this. Let’s not associate feeling good with cupcakes and brownies. Let’ start with the abc’s of appreciation…Show them Affection, wish them Blessings and offer Compassion!
A Direct Correlation Between Weight Loss and Business
Tuesday, April 27th, 2010The local small business development center recently asked me to express my professional journey. As I thought about it, I found correlations between my own transformation and that of my business!
I am passionate about my business but as many of you know, passion is not the only ingredient to being successful. Any business owner knows (and busy mom’s, college students, and hard-working professionals) that gaining and achieving balance AND success is truly an art form. I started out with the intention of bringing a healthy lifestyle to others but soon found that there were many elements besides my core services that would determine whether I would succeed or not. I had to learn from my own experience of an unhealthy, pre-diabetic lifestyle that the building blocks to a fulfilling and energetic life started out with baby steps. I had to learn how to eat better, work out effectively, and understand nutrition and its impact on me. I have, in 10 years, taken my body to an unbelievable place… winning contests, reducing my body fat and adding years to my life. In the same 10 years I have had to learn the building blocks for my business. They included managing the money and inventory, mentoring employees and learning about lease agreements, just to name a few. I have been extremely fortunate to positively impact the health of hundreds of clients and I know this impacts us economically also. When you help one person, whether it be in health or business (or any other avenue for that matter!), the whole community thrives… in fact, dare I say, the whole planet thrives!
I feel empowered to provide jobs and add to the economic impact of our region. But most importantly I am proud to have learned the steps to have a healthy business along with my healthy body and that in turn creates a healthy world! I applaud all of you who, day in and day out, work hard to achieve, give back, and thrive. In each and every small detail that we undertake, there is an impact to those around us. I want to thank you for also choosing to be a positive force in our community! Together, we can make a difference!
A True Success Story!
Wednesday, April 21st, 2010By Wilma Young CPT
Changing our lifestyle to be more fit and healthy is a process. It stems from building your knowledge about proper eating, hard work and consistent choices. I was so happy for a recent revelation that one of my “star” clients had. She has spent the last year transforming her body and mind. She has dropped over thirty pounds and 3 pant sizes. Has muscle tone that rivals a college student and she is twice the age. Her physical changes are obvious to her family, friends and co-workers. But the surprise that revealed itself to us both happened this week. She had to prepare for a scope of the lower and upper GI tract as a regular routine test for a person her age. It required a “prep” diet that involved the elimination of all fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, protein shakes etc. All of the food choices she has come to rely on for mental and physical energy. The recommendations for eating were meat, white bread and processed foods that had little nutrition and fiber. By the time I saw her she was low in energy and feeling “punky” as she put it. She did not need to cut calories so that was not the issue. She knew at that moment that all of the foods she had been choosing over the last year that were full of enzymes, phytonutrients and life-force were an irreplaceable part of her health. That a few days without these items made her feel worn out and sluggish just emphasized how essential this ingredients were to her active and happy life. Her biggest dream was to eat oatmeal and salad again the next day. At this moment we had realized that not only had she transformed her body but also her mind and spirit. That she now craved the nutrition of good food as opposed to the “cheap” high that fast food or sugar provided was proof of what true success is! I guess the old adage is true, that you never know how much you miss something until it’s gone. That the life we choose to invest in is worth the uncomfortable stages we must go though. That in the end we have truly gained success when we know that the choices we make are the right ones and also the ones we want!
